Staying just outside of Tucson was a great opportunity for us to spend some time in the city. We were able to visit REI and make some much needed purchases like new tennis shoes for me and some various climbing gear.
Of course we didn’t stray too far from nature. We visited both the West and East sides of the Saguaro National Park and got our fill of the HUGE and famous cacti. They are all so different looking and seem to have their own personalities. We also encountered some jumping cacti or Jumping Cholla. Those things are crazy! Gerrit was truly fascinated by them, while I stayed as far away as possible.
We also took a drive to Mount Lemon and had a great time hiking there. It was fun to see some snow at the top of the mountain but then to enjoy the 70 degree weather a little lower while we hiked.
We have been in the desert for close to 2 months now and I would have never thought there are so many different kinds of desert! Not kidding! The desert in Texas is completely different than New Mexico and Arizona. Mind blown.

And to all the animals on the earth and to every bird of the air and to everything that creeps on the ground-to everything in which there is the breath of life-I have given every green plant for food. And it was so.
